Certain Smile -- Iron Artist William Stout communes with his personal
Mona Lisa following the 2004 DragonCon Iron Artist competition September
5. The competition, which featured as its "secret ingredient" the style
of Leonardo da Vinci, ended in a tie. For the first time in the competition's
three-year history, the judges couldn't decide between defending champion
Stout's coy dragon and challenger Don Brereton's Renaissance Gandalf.
They left matter up for auction, literally. The winner was determined
by the price each painting fetched in an auction to benefit the Muscular
Dystrophy Association. Stout's piece fetched $600; Brereton's, $160. (Photo
